Weekly Syllabus

Week of Monday, December 13 through Friday, December 17


We have a busy week ahead of us as we finish up 2004. We will finish discussing John Brown, and start talking about the famous Dred Scott v. Sanford Supreme Court decision. We will also be formally introduced to Abraham Lincoln, and get ready for the Civil War upon our return from vacation.

Wednesday, December 15, 2004 (50 minutes)

Topic: Secession becomes a reality; the foundation of the Confederate States of America

Homework: Read the Confederate Constitution. Please write a one page essay comparing and contrasting it to the United States Constitution of 1787, and to the United States Constitution as it stood in 1860.

Thursday, December 16, 2004 (40 minutes)

Topic: The Congress after secession--the Jesse Bright affair.

Homework: TBA

Friday, December 17, 2004 (45 minutes)

Topic: No Class Today!
