Weekly Syllabus

Week of Monday, February 9 through Friday, February 13

This week we will finish our discussion of Reconstruction, and continue to discuss examples of post-Civil War racism in the United States, focusing on lynching, and the Supreme Court case of Plessy v. Ferguson, which permitted racially based segregation for decades.  Your "was slavery the cause of the Civil War" papers are due on Friday.  No late submissions will be accepted.  If you are not in school on Friday, find a way to get the paper to me.  Please note that the rubric for your paper is available.  Make sure that you meet or exceed the expectations.

Monday, February 9, 2009 (40 minutes)

Topic: Discussion of lynching.

Homework: Read the information about the Plessy v. Ferguson decision. Please read the main link (the one that says "Plessy v. Ferguson" and is underlined). You can also read the excerpts from the majority and minority decisions, as you like. The main document is slightly over 10 pages long, but much of it will be familiar to you.
