Weekly Syllabus

Week of Monday, April 5 through Friday, April 9


This week we will finish up the 1920's and learn about the causes and effects of the Great Depression. We will begin our study of America in the 1930's, and finish it up next week.

Please be aware of the following upcoming events : We will have a major test covering Chapters 23, 24 & 25 on April 15th (an A-20 day); and we will have our test on the map of the USA on the following day (Friday, April 16th). And don't forget that you need to keep turning in notes!


Monday, April 5, 2010 (45 minutes)

Due: Your first installment of notes. They must be shared with me via NoodleTools by the start of class.

Topic: Discussion of the reading.

Homework: Work on your project.

 

Tuesday, April 6, 2010 (50 minutes)

Topic: Stock markets, the economy and the Depression.

Homework: Read pp. 709-714 (Franklin D. Roosevelt)

 

Wednesday, April 7, 2010 (45 minutes)

Topic: Discussion of the reading.

Homework: Read AP&AN pp. 714-720 (Political Pressure and the Second New Deal)

 

Thursday, April 8, 2010 (50 minutes)

Topic: Discussion of the reading.

Homework: Read AP&AN pp. 720 (Political Pressure and the Second New Deal )-724 (Labor). Please make a careful study of the graphs on page 719, and plan to memorize, or otherwise be very familiar with the chart on page 718.

 

Friday, April 9, 2010 (45 minutes)

Topic: Discussion of the reading.

Homework: Read AP&AN pp. 728 (New Deal in the South)-732 (Limits of the New Deal). Keep working on your notes--you need to submit a second batch on Monday.
