Week of Monday, October 15  through Friday, October 19


This week we will have a bit more information about the U.S. Constitution and take a detour into a comparative study of other constitutions, and a further detour into the Presidential election.  This is an unusual week, with only four days of school and only three traditional classes. Try to stay focused!


Monday, October 15, 2012 -NO SCHOOL TODAY

Topic: Have a good day off!
Homework: Finish the assignments listed on Friday's entry of the previous syllabus
 

Tuesday, October 16, 2012 (40 minutes)

Topic: Articles IV-VII of the Constitution.  Intro to the Presidential debate.

Homework: Watch all or part of the Presidential debate from 9:00pm to 10:30pm.  It will be on NBC, CBS, ABC, PBS and several cable outlets.  You can also watch it on the internet at (www.youtube.com/politics). If for some reason you cannot watch the debate, come to class tomorrow with three (3) articles about the debate from newspapers or reputable websites.

Wednesday, October 17, 2012 (40 minutes)

Topic: Follow-up discussion about the debate.  Please come to class with at least two observations or questions about the debate. Class participation points will be tripled today, so it is important that you speak in class.  Intro to comparative Constitution project.

Students in "GROUP A" will  read the Preamble and Chapter 1 & Chapter 2 of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.  Students in "GROUP B" will read the Preamble through Article 46 of the Iraqi Constitution.

Thursday, October 18, 2012 (50 minutes)

Topic: The Bill of Rights
Homework: More work on your comparative Constitution project.  The paper is due on Monday by the start of class. You will submit it electronically using Google Docs
 

Friday, October 19, 2012 (30 minutes)

Topic: Parents Weekend Class.  During class we will discuss the United States' Bill of Rights.  Be prepared to speak up, as class participation points will be doubled.

Homework: TBA and finish the paper.
