Week of Monday, September 6 through Friday, September 10


This week we will explore the role of slavery in the American colonies, look at the conflict between white colonists and Native Americans, and learn a little bit about the role America played in the wars and economy of Europe.


 

Monday, September 6, 2010 (45 minutes)

Quiz: on the weekend's reading.

Topic: Discussion of the reading. The Enlightenment and the Great Awakening.

Homework: AP&AN pp. 73 (The Atlantic Trading System...)-76 (West Africa and the Slave Trade). Handout on Middle Passage (handout is due for Wednesday, but get a head start).
 

Tuesday, September 7, 2010 (40 minutes)

Topic: Slavery. Discussion of reading. Study guide work.

Homework: AP&AN pp. 76 (The Web of Empire)-81 (Slaves in Spanish... ).
 

Wednesday, September 8, 2010 (50 minutes)

Quiz: Of some sort.

Topic: More on the slave trade. Discussion of the packet. In class writing assignment.

Homework: Read AP&AN pp. 81-85 (King William's War). Also, Summary section p. 88.
 

Thursday, September 9, 2010 (45 minutes)

Topic: America in European affairs. Mercantilism, colonial economy, "salutary neglect"
Homework: Read AP&AN pp. 121-127 (1763). Also read the George Washington document on the download page.
 

Friday, September 10, 2010 (45 minutes)

Quiz: on last night's reading.

Topic: Discussion of reading.

Homework: Read AP&AN pp. 127-130 (The Stamp Act Crisis).
