Week of Monday, September 5 through Friday, September 9


This week we will explore the role of slavery in the American colonies, look at the conflict between white colonists and Native Americans, and learn a little bit about the role America played in the wars and economy of Europe.


 

Monday, September 5, 2011 (45 minutes)

Quiz: on the recent reading.

Topic: Discussion of the reading. The Enlightenment and the Great Awakening.

Homework: AP&AN pp. 70 (The Atlantic Trading System...)-73 (West Africa and the Slave Trade).

 

Tuesday, September 6, 2011 (40 minutes)

Topic: Slavery. Discussion of reading.

Homework: Read AP&AN pp. 75 (Slaving Voyages)-79 (Imperial Reorganization)

 

Wednesday, September 7, 2011 (45 minutes)

Topic: Group project related to the recent reading.

Homework
: Prepare for discussion tomorrow.You and your groupmates should complete the questions from the "Middle Passage Primary Documents Questions" sheet.  The individual essay is due at the start of class on FRIDAY.

Thursday, September 8, 2011 (50 minutes)

Topic: More on the slave trade. Culmination of group project.

Homework
: Finish the indvidual essay about the Middle Passage.  It is due at the start of class tomorrow.  Read AP&AN pp. 79 (Imperial Reorganization) -84. This is due for Monday's class, but you will also have a short essay to write this weekend, so get a head start!

Friday, September 9, 2011 (45 minutes)

Topic: Discussion to follow up today's chapel service commemorating the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

Homework: Writing assignment as described in class--due Sunday night at 10:00 on the class portal.
