Weekly Syllabus

Week of Monday, December 12 through Friday, December 16

This week we will continue our discussion about race and gender issues in sports. Please note that there is no homework on Wednesday or Thursday.  If you want to, you can write an OPTIONAL blog post for extra credit, with a deadline of 3pm on Friday.  This will be a full week, but when it is over you will have 17 days off. So keep up the good work!

Monday, December 12, 2011 (45 min)

Topic:  Discussion of the reading. Intro to the rest of the reading for the week.

Homework: We will study women in sports focusing on participation in scholastic and professional sports this week.  Please read your article and be ready to discuss it in class tomorrow.

Homework: Read the material on Title IX and be prepared to discuss it in class tomorrow.

Topic: Discussion of the reading.

Topic: Watch video Playing Unfair about women athlete's portrayal in mass media. Take notes and be prepared to discuss the movie in class tomorrow.
