This week we will continue our study of the 1940's and 1950's focusing on some major events in race relations in America.

You'll be introduced to the blog writing component of the course this week, and will have some time to get started with that.


Monday, March 21, 2011 (40 min)

Topic:  Discussion of the blog writing (ongoing) project. Distribution of next reading assignment.

Homework: Finish the chapter summary assignment. It is due tonight at 11pm on the Ning. Read The Fifties pp. 456-471 ("Even as Sam Phillips was inventing himself...")

 

Tuesday, March 22, 2011 (50 min)

Topic: Jackie Robinson and the breaking of Major League Baseball's color barrier. Racial desegregation in sports, the armed forces and education.
Homework: Finish reading the handout (if necessary). Pick any three of your classmates' chapter summaries to read and submit feedback on their paper on the Ning.
 

Wednesday, March 23, 2011 (NO SCHOOL.  SNOW DAY.  ARE YOU KIDDING ME?)

Topic: Discussion of the reading.

Homework: Read The Fifties pp. 471-486.

 

Thursday, March 24, 2011 (45 min)

Topic: Music Class #2--Rockabilly. Discussion of the reading.
Homework: Read The Fifties pp. 539-563. The reading is due for Monday's class.
 

Friday, March 25, 2011 (45 min)

Topic: Time to work with your groups on the blog assignment.

Homework: Work on your blog assignment. It is due at 11pm on Sunday.
