Monday, September 14, 2009 (40 minutes)

Topic: Race relations in the USA. Civil rights issues confronting America in the early Cold War period.

Homework: Read the topic overview about Civil Rights on the History Study Center.



Tuesday, September 15, 2009 (50 minutes)

Topic:  The Murder of Emmett Till.
Homework: Read the full text of the confession, or consult other resources at the companion website.
 

Wednesday, September 16, 2009 (40 minutes)

Topic: Discussion of the video. Background information about the Brown v. Board of Education case.
Homework: Read excerpts from the Brown Decision.
 

Thursday, September 17, 2009 (45 minutes)

Topic: Discussion of the reading. Introduction to third writing assignment.
Homework: Tonight you will begin work on the next writing assignment. It will concern the efforts to achieve desegregation of schools in the 1950's. See the Ning for details.
 

Friday, September 18, 2009 (45 minutes)

Topic: Martin Luther King, and the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Time in class to work on the project.
Homework: Work on your assignment. Reading TBA.
